11th Jan. Hoi An

Hoi An

I slept late while Roy cycled to take photographs at the food market. After breakfast at our hotel we cycled into old town again, looking in the many shops. This particular shop was so beautiful.

Photographed the famous red bridge.

And now having a beer with this view.

From Elevensies we pretty much went straight to lunch. The restaurant called "Morning Glory" had been recommended, so I had a mojito and we shared a few different dishes.

The streets in old town are narrow with beautiful old buildings, full of black mould that surprisingly hasn't made me allergic. Crowded with locals selling their wares and tourists looking for clothes or leather goods which seem to be the thing here.

Roy wanted to hire a scooter but there were none left for the day so we went on a long cycle to the river entrance at the sea. This was away from the old town where all the tourists hang out.. The nets he hoped to photograph were not there. Not much to see.

Used the quiet river road when we could on the way home.

We timed it well by coincidence that the festival of lights was tonight..The day before full moon. The tradition is dim all the lights and to buy candles that are placed on pretty paper holders and then floated diem the river so that the whole area is just lit by candles. We started the evening with the bucket cocktails again.

Then a peaceful boat ride amongst the many candles. We negotiated with an old lady to take us and I have to admit getting tearful about being rowed by someone who looked as old as my gran at 90 but then on thinking about it, maybe it's not all bad still feeling useful and being fit at that age.

We had dinner at one of the street restaurants, sitting on the waters edge

Tired, we cycled back to our hotel, needing to pack for an early pickup.
